Premier League’s Newcastle United Joins the 2025 Gordon Jago Super Group

The Magpies aim for their first “Boot & Ball” trophy at the 2025 Dallas Cup presented by Coca-Cola

DALLAS, Texas (Tuesday, Dec. 17) – Dallas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in North America, is thrilled to announce the return of Newcastle United to the 2025 Dallas Cup presented by Coca-Cola. The Premier League side will compete in the Gordon Jago Super Group, marking their third appearance in the elite Under 19 bracket.

Newcastle United previously competed in the Dallas Cup Super Group in 1998 and 2003, with the brackets ultimately claimed by San Lorenzo (Argentina) and Tigres (Mexico), respectively. As they prepare to make their return after more than two decades, Newcastle United sets its sights on becoming the first English club to win the Gordon Jago Super Group since Everton captured the title in 2016. Newcastle will aim to cement their place among other English Super Group champions like West Ham United (1992), Nottingham Forest (2002), Liverpool (2008), and Fulham (2013).

Known for their black-and-white striped jerseys, Newcastle United is nicknamed The Magpies and hails from the city of Newcastle upon Tyne in Northeast England. Founded in 1892, the club boasts a historic legacy in English soccer, winning four league titles and six FA Cups. Several Dallas Cup alumni are now key contributors to Newcastle’s senior squad, including rising star Anthony Gordon, who competed in the 2017 Dallas Cup with Everton. Full-backs Matt Targett and Kieran Trippier both played in the 2009 Dallas Cup, with Targett representing Southampton in the U13 division and Trippier competing in the Super Group with Manchester City.

As the 2025 Gordon Jago Super Group begins to take shape, Newcastle United joins defending Super Group champions São Paulo FC (Brazil), 2023 champion FC Midtjylland (Denmark), and Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany), who were previously announced. A total of 12 elite teams from top professional clubs and national federations worldwide will compete for the iconic “Boot & Ball” trophy next April.

The 2025 Dallas Cup will be played from April 13 through April 20. As it prepares for the 46th edition of the tournament in 2025, the Dallas Cup continues to build on the remarkable legacy established since its inception in 1980. With the recent acquisition of the Dallas International Girls Cup, the tournament is poised to significantly expand in scope and size, as both the boys and girls brackets will now feature U10 through U19 age divisions.

The application window for teams remains open to apply for the 2025 Dallas Cup. Fans and teams can learn more about the tournament by visiting www.DallasCup.org or following @dallascup on social media.
