DALLAS, Texas (Tuesday, Nov. 22) – Dallas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in North America, has announced that Liga MX rivals Tigres UANL and CF Monterrey will compete in the Gordon Jago Super Group at the 2023 edition of the tournament.
Tigres and CF Monterrey are the two most successful international teams in Dallas Cup history, winning a combined 31 “Boot & Ball” trophies across all age groups.
Tigres has won 15 Dallas Cup championships, including four Super Group titles, which is the most by an individual club. One of the most successful Dallas Cup teams in recent memory, Tigres won back-to-back Super Group titles in 2018 and 2019 with wins in the finals over Arsenal and Villarreal, respectively. The Liga MX side also won the elite bracket in 2011 and 2003. In 2022, Tigres was poised to make another trip to the Super Group championship, but they bowed out to the U-20 El Salvador National Team in the semifinals.
Tigres has won four Super Group titles, the most by one club
CF Monterrey has a record 16 Dallas Cup titles across all age groups, but Rayados are still seeking the elusive 19U Super Group title. Since 2015, Rayados have advanced to the Super Group semifinals on five occasions, including trips to the championship match in 2015 and 2017. This past spring, CF Monterrey reached the Super Group semis, but lost their knockout round match against the eventual champions U-20 Panamanian National Team.
CF Monterrey is the winningest club in tournament history, winning 16 titles across all age groups
With the addition of Tigres and CF Monterrey, the 2023 Gordon Jago Super Group is beginning to take form as the Liga MX duo joins the previously announced Arsenal FC in the elite bracket. In total, 12 elite teams hailing from top pro clubs and national federations around the world will vie for the iconic Super Group “Boot & Ball” trophy.
The 2023 Dallas Cup presented by Coca-Cola will be played April 2 through April 9. The boys’ tournament component (Boys 12U-19U) will once again be played concurrently with the Dallas Cup Girls’ Invitational presented by Mary Kay (Girls 15U-18/19U) which runs April 1 through April 7.
