Frank Filo Promoted to Executive Director of Dallas Cup

DALLAS, TX (Thursday, Aug. 15) — Dallas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in North America, is pleased to announce the promotion of Frank Filo to the position of Executive Director. This promotion follows a successful 2024 tournament and is a testament to Filo's exceptional leadership, having served as Director of Operations this past year.

In his new role, Frank Filo will steer the strategic vision and oversee all facets of the tournament, working closely with the Board of Directors under the guidance and direction of Board President, John Sutter.

Frank Filo's deep-rooted connection to the Dallas-Fort Worth soccer landscape and his extensive experience make him the ideal candidate for this position. A proud alumnus of the Dallas Cup (1988), Filo's commitment to the tournament has been unwavering. Over the past fourteen years, he has served as the Operations Manager and Volunteer Coordinator, later being promoted to Director of Operations. His deep appreciation for the tournament's loyal volunteer base and a profound understanding of the tournament’s intricate workings have been instrumental in the event's success.

A Hall of Fame career at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock and a professional playing career, notably with the Dallas Sidekicks, where he won two World Indoor Soccer League Championships, round out his impressive soccer pedigree.

Frank Filo shared his enthusiasm for the promotion: “I am incredibly honored to take on the role of Executive Director at Dallas Cup. This tournament has been a significant part of my life, and I am excited about the opportunity to propel it to new heights, especially as we approach the 2026 World Cup year. I look forward to working with our dedicated team and volunteers to ensure the continued and sustained growth of this one-of-a-kind event.”

John Sutter, Dallas Cup President, further commented on the promotion: “Frank’s leadership and passion for the sport have been pivotal to our recent successes. His appointment as Executive Director reflects his significant contributions and the bright future we envision for Dallas Cup under his guidance.”

As it prepares for the 46th edition of the tournament in 2025, the Dallas Cup continues to build on the remarkable legacy established since its inception in 1980. With the recent acquisition of the Dallas International Girls Cup, the tournament is poised to significantly expand in scope and size, as both the boys and girls brackets will now feature U10 through U19 age divisions. The 2025 Dallas Cup will be played from April 13 through April 20.

The team application window is now open, and fans and teams alike can learn more about the tournament by visiting www.DallasCup.org or by following through social media @dallascup.
