DALLAS, Texas (Thursday, Jan. 12) – Dallas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in North America, has announced that Denmark’s FC Midtjylland will compete in the Gordon Jago Super Group at the 2023 Dallas Cup presented by Coca-Cola.
FC Midtjylland will make their Dallas Cup debut in 2023, hoping to become the first Danish side to hoist the Super Group “Boot & Ball” trophy and just the second champion all-time to hail from Denmark across all age groups. Since the tournament’s inception in 1980, just two Nordic clubs have claimed a Dallas Cup title - Aalborg BK (2013, U17) from Denmark and IF Brommapojkarna (2013, U19) from Sweden. Midtjylland hopes to add their name to that list later this spring.
Midtjylland was founded in 1999 from the merging of 2 clubs and plays in the country’s top division, the Danish Super League, which they have won three times. The club has built a reputation for finding and developing promising young talents, and has a highly regarded youth academy, which is heavily driven by analytics and data-driven assessments. In fact, Midtjylland was the first Danish club to establish its own football academy, which now attracts talented players throughout Denmark and has a particular vested interest in developing players from South America and Africa.
FC Midtjylland is the seventh team announced for the 2023 Gordon Jago Super Group. Earlier this week, it was announced that Brazil’s São Paulo FC would also compete in the elite bracket. The duo joins England’s Arsenal FC, Brazil’s Botafogo, Liga MX’s Tigres and CF Monterrey, as well as Canada’s Toronto FC, who were previously announced. In total, 12 elite teams hailing from top pro clubs and national federations around the world will vie for the iconic Super Group “Boot & Ball” trophy.
The 2023 Dallas Cup presented by Coca-Cola will be played April 2 through April 9. The boys’ tournament component will once again be played concurrently with the Dallas Cup Girls’ Invitational presented by Mary Kay (Girls 15U-18/19U) which runs April 1 through April 7.
